Kolping Kupang Reflective Workshop

Ignites Passion for Local Wisdom and Community Growth

Kupang, November 17, 2024 – A sense of renewed energy and optimism filled the air as Kolping leaders and members gathered for the Reflective Workshop in Kupang. Held at Puskopdit BK3S over two vibrant days, the event embraced the theme “Kolping in Kupang: Moving Towards Kolping from Kupang.” This gathering aimed to weave Kolping’s global mission with the rich tapestry of Kupang’s local culture, inspired by the Lopo philosophy—a cornerstone of Timorese tradition.

A New Path Rooted in Local Wisdom

The Lopo, a traditional structure symbolizing solidarity, democracy, and sustainability, became the heart of the discussions. Workshop participants explored how this local wisdom could fuel Kolping’s mission to empower communities through collaboration and innovation.

“Seeing how the Lopo philosophy aligns with Kolping’s principles was eye-opening,” shared Agatha, a first-time participant. “It’s inspiring to think about how such deep local values can create a stronger, united Kolping community.”

Key Areas of Action to Drive Change

The workshop didn’t just inspire—it delivered results. Six strategic areas were identified to guide Kolping Kupang’s future:

  1. Savings and Loan Group (UBSP): Promoting economic independence with transparent financial systems.
  2. Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries: Revitalizing local industries through sustainable practices.
  3. Home Industry: Supporting crafts and weaving with skills training and market access.
  4. Church and Society: Enhancing active roles in spiritual and social activities.
  5. Youth Formation and Education: Empowering the next generation of leaders.
  6. Leisure Activities: Building connections through fun, purposeful events.

Voices of Joy and Gratitude

The participants’ enthusiasm echoed throughout the workshop. Sipri Padi, a long-time Kolping member, said, “The outcomes of this workshop are truly remarkable. It feels like a fresh start for Kolping Kupang.”

For Regional Coordinator Etty Seda, the active participation of attendees was the highlight: “I’m overjoyed to see the enthusiasm. The hard work and preparation paid off—it was all worth it!”

A Stellar Team Effort

The workshop was masterfully facilitated by Paulce Parera, Task Force Coordinator of Kolping Indonesia, who guided the discussions with precision and passion. His leadership ensured the sessions were engaging and productive, creating a roadmap for Kolping Kupang’s journey forward.

A Brighter Future for Kolping Kupang

This event wasn’t just about plans—it was about reigniting a shared vision. The Lopo philosophy underscored the importance of solidarity, sustainability, and equality, resonating deeply with participants. With these values at its core, Kolping Kupang is ready to take bold steps toward a brighter, more impactful future.

This workshop serves as a testament to Kolping’s commitment to empowering communities and creating lasting change—proof that local wisdom and global mission can thrive together.
