Ruteng, Jan 12 – Kolping families in Ruteng had the unique opportunity to host an unplanned yet meaningful visit from Mr. Gregor, Coordinator for Kolping Europe and Asia, and his wife on Sunday, January 12, 2025. The visit took place unexpectedly due to flight delays, which led the couple to find themselves in Flores Island. Despite the unforeseen circumstances, the visit brought inspiration and a renewed spirit of hope for Kolping members in the Holy Spirit Ru’a Parish and Kumba Parish.
The day began with a Eucharistic Celebration at Ka Redong Parish, where Parish Priest Fr. Kris Sambu, SVD, together with the Parish Council, warmly welcomed the guests. Mr. Gregor was moved by the enthusiasm of the children attending the Eucharistic Celebration, calling it a beacon of hope for the Church and Kolping’s future in Indonesia. “Children are the future of the Church and Kolping. Their spirit should motivate us to continue developing Kolping’s mission,” he said.

The visit continued to Ru’a Parish, where Kolping families welcomed Mr. Gregor and his wife through traditional ceremonies. In a heartfelt discussion, community representative Paskalis Ngabut shared how the Joint Savings and Loans Program (UBSP) has been instrumental in supporting children’s education. He also conveyed a request for Kolping International’s assistance in expanding the program’s reach.
In response, Mr. Gregor expressed his admiration for the community’s efforts and highlighted the importance of locally contextual, sustainable programs. He encouraged Kolping members to improve their English skills to strengthen international collaboration, emphasizing that Kolping International could act as a facilitator to support such endeavors.
During the visit, Lusia Sengol, a member of UBSP in Kolping Bernadette, shared her pride in being part of Kolping. She noted that through UBSP, her children could complete their higher education. Lusia also voiced a request for support in starting weaving and pandan-leaf hat-making training to boost Kolping families’ income.
The visit concluded with shared stories and motivation among Kolping families and their guests. “This encounter is a meeting of hope. Through mutual commitment, Kolping will continue to thrive and grow,” Mr. Gregor affirmed.
